Interfaith launch for Peace Train in Vancouver

Over 100 people attended the Nov. 14 interfaith launch of the Peace Train at Canadian Memorial United Church in Vancouver. The evening included blessings from the Indigenous, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Tibetan and Christian traditions. During her remarks, Mary Point of the Musqueam Nation said she was “lifted up to be among you . . . there can never be enough peace in the world.”

She went on to say her ancestors would travel with the 40 Peace Train participants from Vancouver to Ottawa before singing a traditional song for the beginning of the journey.

The goal of the Peace Train is to ask the Canadian government to establish and fund a Centre of Excellence for Peace and Justice focused on research, education, and training in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and peace operations. It departed Vancouver on Nov. 15 and will arrive in Ottawa on Nov. 20.
