Peace Train Canada going back to Ottawa, Oct. 22-26
Peace Train Canada is going back to Ottawa! By plane, this time; VIA Rail was unable to accommodate us this time around, so we are travelling by air. And you are welcome to join us!
We will be in the nation’s capital Oct. 22-26.The time kicks off with a parliamentary breakfast gathering co-hosted by Senator Marilou McPhedran (non-affiliated, Manitoba), Elizabeth May (Green Party, Saanich—Gulf Islands) and Gord Johns (Courtenay—Alberni) and Taleeb Noormohamed (Liberal-Vancouver-Granville).
At this event, Peace Train Canada and the Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (CNANW) will each present their case. (Peace Train Canada is now an official member of CNANW.)
On October 23, three PTC representatives will observe the Expert Round Table on Nuclear Disarmament entitled, “Advancing Nuclear Disarmament in a Chaotic World”, sponsored by the Nuclear Disarmament 4 (ND4): Canadian Leadership for Nuclear Disarmament (CLND), Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (CNANW), Canadian Pugwash Group (CPG), and Project Ploughshares.
Later that day PTC will attend the CLND Public Award Presentation, Lecture, and Reception. This year's recipient of the Award for Distinguished Achievement in Nuclear Disarmament is Hon. Douglas Roche, a supporter of Peace Train Canada.
On October 24, we spend the day at a conference on “Canadian Security Interests and Trump 2.0”, co-hosted by the Canadian Pugwash Group and the University of Ottawa Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS).
October 25 is the Annual Meeting of the CNANW in the morning, where Peace Train Canada will be welcomed as a new member. In the afternoon, we will take part in a Nuclear Disarmament Advocacy Forum entitled, “Nuclear Disarmament: Understanding your Adversary”, co-hosted by CNANW and CPG.
The presentations and panel discussion following will be focused on improving advocacy in support of nuclear disarmament, in particular, understanding and presenting the best counter-arguments to the nuclear deterrence security doctrine.
We will be planning other events such as a music night, and separate meetings with Parliamentarians.
More information to come! If you want to be part of these events in Ottawa, contact us at wyton@shaw.ca (put Peace Train Canada in the subject line).
